Salta Airport, Salta, Argentina
Sunrise over the mountains surrounding Salta.
Dear Reader,
I’m currently sitting at the airport in Salta, and wanted to send you a quick note before I head off to Buenos Aires and then to France.
Adrien just left me at security. We’ll be meeting again in Buenos Aires in two weeks, si Dios quiere - God willing.
Last night I performed at a club called Legui in the heart of downtown Salta. Guests trickled in around 9.30/ 10 o’clock, and ordered dinner and drinks.
“People go out later on a Friday night”, the owner said. “Are you ok with starting closer to 11pm?”.
“Sure,” I told him.
When we’d arrived at the club at 6pm for the sound check, we’d discovered that the key to the joint was not in the lockbox. It was close to 7 before the hostess, a blonde and smiley young woman, showed up gushing apologies about having accidentally forgotten to put the key back before she left the night before.
I guess I’m getting used to “Argentime”.
So I chit chatted with people I knew and ordered a whiskey at the bar. Neat. One ice cube.
Legui, located in a former private home, is a relatively new watering hole in Salta, and offers beautifully curated cocktails, and light bites. On Fridays, local musicians play. Late night, a DJ takes over.
The decor is elegant, modern, and fresh. A deep blue colours the walls, and a huge crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling in the main room where I sang. There’s an enormous gilded mirror, and little tables with plush chairs.
Nacho, the owner, is a former model and actor who played Martín Miguel de Güemes in the 2015 series, Güemes. He goes around to all the tables as if greeting his own guests.
At 11pm, I told him I was ready to go. We played for an hour and closed with La Vie En Rose.
Here’s a clip from the show.
I’ll write to you from France.
Abrazos,
Mariah
